Pregnancy: Not A Death Sentence!

Pregnancy: Not A Death Sentence!

Oh Mothers! You nurture us for months in wombs

You are our sources of food and drinks

Foetus we live on you still after birth

Took pains carrying us for 9 months

Tiredness, emotional reactions unusual 24/7

Physically uncomfortable as long take us

Mothers! The exceptional I applaud!

Thousands of you died annually

From preventable deaths, the crime against humankind

In the cities many died so soon

In villages pregnant Mothers unreportedly passed away by day

Simply by not putting achievable available!

Majority died for ignorance of causes

Bad roads and poor health services counted huge

Unreal and politicization of data defy dreams

System corruptions and deceiving voters

Commitment, accountability and transparency buried

Dispute reducing maternal deaths

More Mamas died to lack of services access

Extra more are dying due to treatable pregnancy complications

Maternal mortality in our home is man made!

While other countries recording 1/100,000 live birth

My home under recording 1000/100,000 live birth as dead vs alive of mothers

Pregnancy must not be a death sentence!

It is privilege, prestige and happiness

Rejoices with singing and dancing

Saving mothers from untimely death is compulsory

Know the danger signs and plans to help

Individuals, communities, fundamentally government must lead

Maternal deaths must be stopped!

Everyone have a part to stop humanity crime

Inaction to commitments I call Moms got on strike for Dads!

“This poem is dedicated to all women who lost their lives during pregnancy, child birth or pregnancy related problems” M. A. Sufi

Babies

Babies

Musa Abdullahi Sufi

Babies are charming and lovely

Parent taught babies what to do

Everything to them is fresh

Babies always require support

They eat right and wrong-sweet and poison

Shouted Stop! Hardly have they recognized

Same babies learn singing and talking

Scrawling! Then try to walk call Ta-ta--taa!

Parents smiles as babies utter words

We give them water and food bits and pieces

Babies spit it out once had enough

They cry loudly puff and huff for their feeder

Babies smells and scent good

Their smiles is like been forgiven

Their stubborn activates lazy Dads

Babies realised Mama first

Daddy might feels not part of home

Gradually they want follow Daddy work

Parents, do lots of things for babies

Parents get angry for babies at times

Be patient Dads and Moms

Once upon a time, parents were babies too!
